What are marla and kanal?

Marla and kanal are the traditional land measurement units used across Pakistan — especially in Punjab and Sindh. While the rest of the world talks in square metres, Pakistani property deals, registry documents and housing society maps all speak marla and kanal. One kanal equals 20 marla, and one marla equals 272.25 square feet (30.25 square yards).
